Cinemaazi remembers Marathi filmmaker Anant Mane on his birth anniversary

An acclaimed Marathi filmmaker,Anant Manewas born in Kolhapur on this day in 1915. He started his career as an editor at Prabhat, working on Ramshashtri (1944).He left along with other artistes likeRaja Nene.He reportedly ghost-directed some of Nene's films, including the 1950 hit Patthe Bapurao. His early films resembled Datta Dharmadhikarimelodramas. 1958's Dhakti Jau won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. He set up Chetana Chitra in 1956 and later branched into distribution with Chandravilas Films in 1968. Many of his films adapted the folk form of Tamasha in their narrative form like the blockbuster Sangte Aika (1959). Manini (1961) and Sawaal Majha Aika! (1964) also won National Awards. He was also credited as scriptwriter for several films like Chimni Pakhare (1952),Pinjra (1972) and Tamasgeer (1981).
