Cinemaazi remembers Pramod Chakravorty, the director and producer of the 1966 classic Love in Tokyo, a prolific visionary filmmaker, on his birth anniversary (15 August 1930).
He was among the very successful and prevalent filmmakers of his time, especially during the 1960’s-70s. He was a true example of the rags to riches story. At the age of 20, he left his family in Calcutta, boarded a moving train on impulse and landed in Bombay with little money.
After several odd jobs he discovered intrigue in cinema, and slowly lived up to build an empire and his company of now more than 50 years called Pramod Films.
He made 17 movies in his career span with a very impressive track record of rendering entertaining Jubilee hits across genres.
