Cinemaazi remembers Josef Wirsching on his death anniversary
11 Jun 1967
Known for his abililty to play with shadows and way of structuring a narrative with well-constructed frames, Josef Wirsching was a pillar of Bombay Talkies. One of the German artists who fled Hiter's regime, he was still confined to an internment camp during the Second World War. The full range of his stylistic influence can be seen from Prem Sanyas (1925) to Mahal (1949). His work would have a tremendous influence on V K Murthy and in turn the imagery of Guru Dutt's films. He passed away on 11 June, 1967.
