A happy family living together in perfect harmony under one roof is abruptly torn apart when one of the brothers, Suresh, falls in love with adventures, Champa.

As Champa’s demands grow Suresh finds himself getting into financial difficulties. He hits upon a bright idea and negotiates with a rich barrister for the marriage of his younger brother Naresh with barristers’ eligible daughter. The barrister agrees to play a handsome sum as dowry.

Sensing possible danger to Suresh’s wife, Sita, the eldest brother and head of the family, Mahesh, rents a portion of their house to a stranded refugee doctor, and thus unwittingly promotes a romance between the doctor’s daughter, Krishna, and Naresh. The doctor promises to render all necessary medicals aid to the ailing Sita.

When he first learns of Naresh having fallen in love with Krishna, Mahesh revolts, but later Sita manages to persuade him to accept Krishna as an ideal bride for the young Naresh. Mahesh and the doctor make speedy arrangements for the wedding and Suresh walks into his home with the barrister to find the engagement ceremony in progress! A violent quarrel ensues and Mahesh decides to leave the house in disgust swearing never again to cross the threshold. Naresh accompanies his brother, and Suresh is further thwarted when the barrister refuses to give his daughter in marriage to a brother of the inhuman Suresh.

Suresh is now desperate in his efforts to win Champa and plans to murder Sita to collect on her life insurance. From here the story moves swiftly towards the revealing climax which finds the prodigal repentant and the family happily together once an again-now bigger family with the addition of Naresh’s bride, Krishna.
