Owing to her father's sudden death Asha, the eldest daughter of a middle class family was compelled to take job in a commercial firm to maintain the family. But the limited income could not solve her problems and as the job was temporary, she became restless as she was to meet the expenses of widow mother, sick brother and her younger sister Lata alongwith several creditors. Asha expressed her difficulties to her office colleague Sunita who was in the good book of her boss. On her advice she became intimate to the boss and got her job confirmed along with other amenities. The lure of easy money brought complete change to Asha and she started leading an undisciplined life without any moral backing. Her mother could not object considering the family burden but the younger brother did not like his sister's leading such way of life. He started earning money as Newspaper hawker.

Asha was murdered in a garden house. The younger sister Lata realised everything and it so happened she was also compelled to follow the elder and earn money in the same way.

On hearing the sad plight of the family, one of their relatives from Delhi took Lata there. One day on her way to college she met with an accident which brought her nearer to Sunil, the great Cricketeer of the City. They became closer and without knowing the girl's past Sunil married her.

The couple went for honey-moon at Simla when Ramesh, Sunil's friend who was once an admirer of Lata revealed her past to her husband.
Follows mental torture and painful moments. The husband reaches a point of murdering the girl. Lata was prepared to face the consequence and started relating the sad history of their family and the circumstances which compelled her to lead such life.
