Om Dar-B-Dar is the story of an adolescent boy named Om who lives with his elder sister Gayatri and his father Babuji B. Shankar –who was a government servant but quit his job to pursue astrology. Om is an imaginative boy, while Gayatri is a firebrand who considers herself equal to any man. She goes to watch a film alone and sits in the men’s section of the theatre. A young man named Jagdish follows her, and they are brought closer by their shared interests. Jagdish starts working as a typist for Gayatri’s father. Unfortunately, he is replaced by a woman named Phoolkumari when she offers her services to Babuji after she is unable to pay for a consultation. Humiliated, Jagdish breaks off ties with his family and runs away.
As Om grows older, he develops feelings for Phoolkumari. Lala Lotamal, a rich landlord, comes to Babuji and gives him his shoes, which have diamonds hidden in the soles. Unaware of this, Om runs away from home wearing Lotamal’s shoes. Babuji suspects Phoolkumari of the theft. An insulted Phoolkumari places a curse on him: he will die the instant he leaves his room. Lotamal returns to claim his shoes, and Babuji convinces him that he has crushed the diamonds and fed them to him. He only has to defecate in an isolated spot to find them again. When Lotamal goes out in the middle of the night to do so, Om spots him. Lotamal appoints Om as the keeper of his land. Om starts catching the frogs on his land and sells them to a medical college. Medical students find diamonds in the frogs when they dissect them. Word spreads fast, and a huge crowd gathers at Lotamal’s grounds to hunt frogs. When Lotamal tries to stop them he is shot dead.
Phoolkumari’s curse bears fruit and Babuji dies when he leaves his room to catch Om. Om absconds to Pushkar and is hired by a priest to take coins out of a village pond. Meanwhile, Jagdish returns to see Gayatri has borne him a child. The two lovers decide to commit suicide together. Though Jagdish consumes poison, Gayatri changes her mind and leaves him dying on the cliff.
