Durga (Sridevi) is a village girl, out spoken, mischievious and daring character. She marries to Inspector Ajay (Akshay) and coms to city alongwith her husband. According to her character she wants to know regarding everybody staying in her 'Basti' and wants to interfere in their lives. She becomes friend of Jayshree T. who runs paan-beedi shop in 'Basti'.
Ajay (Akshay) is a brave and honest Police Inspector having regular encounters with the Gangsters working for Bharav (Anupam Kher). His senior D.S.P. Chorasia (Kiran Kumar) is a corrupt officer and helping hand to Bhairav the comic Don assisted by Chitra Gupta (Johny Lever).
For a noble cause to save a girl being raped by Bhairav's goondas at wine-shop. Durga fights with goondas and destroys "Daru-Adda" of Bhairav. For a noble cause to save a girl (Gulshan Grover's sister) from prostitution, Durga fights and destroys 'Kotha' of Bhairav.
Now Bhairav wants to finish Durga and Inspector Ajay is there to save his wife and the law. Clash between Bhairav and Ajay + Durga is the story of "Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin".
An action oriented comedy film.
