"Madhosh" presents an engrossing and dramatic conflict between the two classes of youths: one believing in seeking pleasure and enjoyment at any cost, the other dedicating themselves to the betterment and services of their fellow men and women.
The main characters in this conflict between the self-seeking pleasure-lovers and the dedicated, socially conscientious youths are four:
Rajkumar: The only child of a wealthy widowed mother, who dotes on him. He is initiated into facts of life by an over-sexed governess and is thus spoiled to believe that woman is a mere sex-animal meant for the pleasure of man.
Goldie: A self-made popular pop-singer, who tries in vain to reform his friend Rajkumar and make him realise that a woman deserves social equality with man.
Meenal: A poor village-belle, for whom self-respect and honour are more dear than life itself and who is brave enough to thwart all the attempts of Rajkumar to seduce her. It is this steadfast dedication to human dignity and woman's honour which compel Rajkuamr to realise that woman is an essential moral, mental and social force for the happiness of men. Rajkumar marries Meenal.
Mona: A poor girl, plagued by unfortunate circumstances, takes up Cabaret dancing as a profession. Sex-addict Rajkumar tries to seduce Mona despite friendly warnings by Goldie and when Mona brushes Rajkumar aside, he drugs and dupes her by foul means and ultimately dishonours her. This evil act agitates Goldie into a feeling of revenge.
