Samir Niyogi (Vinod Khanna), is an expert in antiques. Dr. Amul Sen, Director, National Museum of Arts, gives him an assignment at Jasod in Rajasthan. Jasod was once a small Jagir, ruled by an unjust ruler, Raja Param Singh, who terrorised his subjects. Samir is asked to take charge of the fort and palaces once occupied by Raja Param Singh, on behalf of the National Museum.

On his way to Jasod, a girl typically dressed in Rajashani clothes boards his compartment at night, but disappears by morning, leaving Samir dazed.

In Jasod, Samir gets down to work in the palace, which is empty, but architecturally beautiful. He is helped by the Collector of Jasod, Shafi Ahmed Siddique (Amjad Khan), who happens to be his old college friend.

The girl whom he met in the train keeps meeting Samir. Everytime the encounter brings in some sort of mystery. Rewa (Dimple) is her name and she reveals to him various incidents in her life and Samir even starts getting visions of these incidents.

A confused Samir goes to Jaipur in search of more details on re-birth, life after death etc., where he meets Pammi, his ex-girlfriend and her uncle, Dr. B.N. Mathur, who is a Professor of Para-psychology. He explains to Samir that Rewa could be an atma (soul of a departed person), which has got entangled in the cycle of time and wants to get free.

At some point of time, Rewa disappears leaving Samir dazed and disappointed. He goes in search of her as he wants to help her to free her soul from the cycle of time Does he succeed...?
