Sanjay works as a tourist guide in the Himalayas and lives with his best friend Hanuman. He is smitten with the visiting Priya who has come from Calcutta with her friends. A series of hijinks and misunderstandings ensue, but he is successful in wooing Priya. In the meantime, Priya’s father has been framed of a crime by the two brothers Tarun and Prem. Priya rushes back to Calcutta to bail out her father. Sanjay, while returning from dropping Priya off at the airport, suffers a car accident and dies.

Here comes the twist in the tale. The villainous Tarun looks identical to Sanjay and it was his turn to die. But the angel in charge of this makes a mistake and Sanjay dies instead. To rectify this mistake, Sanjay’s soul is taken back to earth by the angel. But they arrive too late and Sanjay’s body has already been immolated. So the angel instead takes him to Tarun’s residence in Calcutta. Tarun’s brother Prem meanwhile has been scheming to get rid of his brother and successfully kills him. He also attempts to frame Priya for the murder. But unfortunately for Prem the angel allows Sanjay to enter Tarun’s body and his plan is dismantled.
Sanjay despises being in the body of an unethical man like Tarun, especially because Priya hates him. Sanjay learns that Tarun is estranged from his grandmother, is engaged in many criminal activities and also involved with his secretary Rita. The good-hearted Sanjay reconciles with the grandmother and also succeeds in convincing his friend Hanuman of his real identity. To win back Priya he starts undoing all of Tarun’s evil deeds. He also spurns Rita’s amorous advances. These new found virtues convince Priya that he has truly changed and she agrees to marry him.

Prem considers himself to be an equal claimant of their accrued wealth. He is incensed by his brother’s transformation and sees his philanthropic ways as an injustice to him. He conspires with Rita to put an end to these happenings. Rita reveals to Sanjay that he cannot marry Priya because she has already married Tarun.  She also manipulates Priya into suspecting Sanjay. But Prem has his own agenda and kills her in order to frame Priya for the murder. Sanjay realises what has happened and plans to foil Prem’s despicable acts.

Sanjay pretends to go back to Tarun’s old ways, drinking and partying with abandon. One night he pretends to pass out from drinking too much and Prem, sensing an opportunity, tries to kill him. This turns out to be a ruse to ensnare Prem into confessing all his crimes. Prem is arrested and Priya and Sanjay are finally united.
