Thousands of years ago there ruled Demon Kin Mayasur. Rishis and saints were unable to perform their worships on account of his terror. In his kingdom he was forcing everybody to worship him as God. Devine voice warned him that the child of princess Mandakini, daughter of King Vishal will bring end to him and his kingdom. After having heard this, he planned to kill Mandakini by sending Demon named Dundubhi. Mandakini was saved by the bravery of Veer Avikshit, the brave son of Karandhram of Ayodhya, who defeated the Demon Dundubhi, seeing the brevery of Avikshit, Mandakini, fell in love with him.

Hearing the description of charms of beauty of Mandakini, the Demon King became restless and decides to make her own queen. But he was disappointed Mndakini and Avikshit were married. For mistake committed by Mandakini in her previous life, she had received a curse from Rishi Agatsya, due to which her husband was deformed. Remembering this Mandakini requests Agatsya for the cure of her husband. Agatsya was pleased by her request and told her that if your husband gets Darshan of twelve Jyotirlings of holi India which will cure him. On way to pilgrimage, Mandakini gave birth to child who was thrown in Ganges by Kin Mayasur, to  end his life.
