India's valiant fight for freedom dates back to the year 1885 when 72 wise men, drawn from all over India, met together to make history for India. On the background of this record Suresh, Sheela, Aziz, Manohar and others weave a life according to their own pattern. "Azadi Ki Rah Par" is the story of their lives and incidently the lives of those who have lived and died for India.

Suresh is the embodiment of the Gandhian concept of life. Sheela, his better-half, thinks it better to serve the cause of the Motherland in a different way. Manohar, Suresh's younger brother, believes in the cult of the bomb, while Aziz, Suresh's bosom friend, likes to storm the British from within the Legislatures.

These are all noble sons and daughters of India indeed. There are others, as in life, like Seth Dhanraj and Sir Shamsher with whom money and glory are the guiding motives. Suresh's mother, however, is a stout-hearted lady. She dies calmly so that her noble sons may hold aloft bravely the torch of freedom. The struggle however, is half-over.

In the words of Suresh, it will only be over when the common man is assured of the fulfillment of the dreams of the Father of our Nation.
