Mohammed Rafi and His Piano Songs

31 Jul, 2020 | Short Features by Haresh Joshi

The piano, along with the guitar, is perhaps the most cinematic of all instruments. From the very inception of film music, as western orchestration was blended with Indian rhythms, it found a pride of place in soundtracks. It made quite a few starring appearances onscreen as well, as the living room piano was a staple of romantic numbers, especially the 50s and 60s. Mohammed Rafi too enjoyed singing quite a few tunes to the dulcet tones of the piano. Here are the ten most memorable songs by Rafi, featuring this prince among instruments.
