I Have Seen The Talkie Being Fathered - R S Chowdhary

19 Mar, 2026 | Archival Reproductions by Cinemaazi
Two important scenes from the first talkie "Alam Ara", on the left is Prithviraj with Moti and on the right is Master Vithal & Miss Zubeida, the hero & heroine of the first talkie

From Taxila to Tensingh or from Nalanda to Nasik- where Dada Saheb Phalke produced the first Motion Picture of India-is a far cry but the spirit of pioneers is the same.

Coming up

[Sri Chowdhary is one of the closest associates of the father of Indian Talkie, Mr A M Irani and a veteran writer and director since the early days of the Talkie Film. He has very intimately watched the birth & growth of the talkies. Recounting his experiences in the BHARAT JYOTI he has very vividly described the birth pangs of the "Talkie", its gradual growth and has given a comparative study of the past era against present perspective which is reproduced here for its historical authenticity & general information......
